San Francisco sits between the Ocean and the Bay. What happens when you immerse yourself in these waters? An unexpected, wild, stark, and natural San Francisco reveals itself. This is one of twelve views produced for “Open Water: San Francisco” the calendar. For Level Five it was a personal project made possible by intersection of art, design, open water swimming, and a love for this place.

“Escaping the Rock” sounds like an ominous proposition, but it is only a mile and a quarter away from shore. Currents, conditions and boat traffic small and large must be carefully observed and respected. The swim can be quick and delightful one day and quite harrowing the next.
